“We will never understand each other” is a piece for drums and Loudspeakers.
The Drummer and the Loudspeakers are performing a dialog whereat the Loudspeakers are playing back a recorded vocal part that is cut up in narrow fragments and sounds. The piece is using attributes as they would appear in a debate between two arguing voices, like: interrupting each other, talking about the same thing, embarrassing silence… In this context the drummer plays the third voice. The piece therefore also refers to the linguistic qualities that an instrument (in this case the drum set) can possess. As with speaking, the words that form the sentence or the argument magically come to one’s mind while the sentence is being spoken.
